Our story

Tilde Cafe was founded in 2008, by Deepti Pradhan. By January 2009, it was listed as the first science cafe in CT on the science cafes website maintained by WGBH Educational Foundation - WGBH is the public television station out of Boston, and produces NOVA among many other fantastic shows.  At the time, Tilde Cafe was the only listed science cafe between NYC and Boston!

In 2016, we were selected by C&D studios for a new website design, and a new logo. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to retire that website in January 2024, but thankfully, C&D studios' wonderfully designed logo can still be seen on all our branded materials.

As of July 2014, the IRS has recognized Tilde Cafe as a 501(c)(3) organization. Gifts are deductible to the full extent allowable under IRS regulations.

In 2021, Tilde Cafe's founder, Deepti Pradhan, participated in the inaugural event launched by SciPEP - an effort to engage the public with basic science, backed by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and The Kavli Foundation.
